Steady in the saddle

Calling all mountain bikers, racing bikers, e-bikers and casual peddlers, welcome to Meraner Land - the region catering for cyclists.

Some people are experienced sports enthusiasts and stubbornly head straight up mountain roads and paths, while others prefer a more leisurely approach to covering distances. Some love a challenge and are on the lookout for winding forest trails, while others accept a little electric support. Yet all cyclists have one thing in common: they can agree that there's nothing to beat the feeling of fresh wind blowing in your face.

The ALPIANA – green luxury Dolce Vita Hotel is the ideal accommodation for getting to know the best tours in Meraner Land and discovering new ones. A leisurely bike ride down the Etsch river valley, mountain biking at Vigiljoch, astride a racing bike hot on the trails of the Giro d'Italia over the winding Gampenpass and up to Nonsberg. You'll find the best suggestions here, while the Margesin family will also be able to give cyclists a few excellent insider tips.

The range of bicyles at the ALPIANA – green luxury Dolce Vita Hotel has been extended to include new CUBE mountain bikes and Bergamont E-Revox Premium Sport e-bikes with powerful Bosch batteries. Children's bicycles may also be hired free of charge, allowing guests the chance to discover Meran and the impressive surrounding countryside and cultural landscape by bike.

Racing bikes: dual access

The Gampenpass is 17 kilometres away from the ALPIANA – green luxury Dolce Vita Hotel. Once you reach Gampenpass, the path goes as far as Fondo. Just before Fondo there is a turning off left to the Mendelpass, where a quick detour to the emerald-green Lago Smeraldo lake is recommended. Then it's time to cover the stretch up to the Mendelpass before descending down to the Wine Road. Once there, the cycle path to Meran leads to Lana, where the final ascent back to the ALPIANA – green luxury Dolce Vita Hotel awaits you.

Mountain Bike Tour: to Platzers and onwards to Laugenalm pasture

Starting from the ALPIANA – green luxury Dolce Vita Hotel, follow the forest path past Völlaner Badl and further onwards to Platzers. Once there, turn off left, until after 2 kilometres you cross the Gampenstraße. There is then a short ascent following the Gampenstraße as far as Gampenalm pasture. Once there, turn right along the forest path to Laugenalm pasture.

Leisurely cycling: taking the low road along the river

The cycle path through the Etsch river valley is, along with the Südtiroler Unterland cycle path, the flattest that South Tyrol has to offer in terms of cycle paths. The stretch between Bozen/Frangart and Lana runs alongside the river all the way for over 20 kilometres.
