Because the small Alpine region of South Tyrol has mountainous terrain, it is heavily dependent on the smooth running of public transportation systems. The region has thus created an integrated transportation system. The main public transportation system is made up of trains, buses, and shuttle services. At greater heights, mountain railways, cable cars and gondolas also play an important role.

Direct rail connection between Innsbruck and Merano
With the direct train betwenn Innsbruck and Merano you take less than 3 hours to arrive at Merano. From Monday to Saturday the train starts at 06.22 a.m. in Innsbruck, with arrival at 09.14 a.m. in Merano. The return trip starts at 19.46 in Merano, with arrival at 22.30 p.m. in Innsbruck.
