Walking

A sense for nature

Far-reaching views and clouds scurrying by. Perspectives and moments. Glimpses of mountain peaks and greenery. And mountains as far as the eye can see.

The rustling of the wind in the woods, the gurgling of mountain streams flowing through meadows, the whistling in the ears of keen mountain climbers. The sweet scent of wild thyme wafts by, along with tones of earth, wood and moss. Chewing sweet clover like children, tasting ‘Knödel’ dumplings, slurping water from mountain springs, counting tree rings with your fingers, letting your hands run through the long grass or reach up rocks. Live the mountains with all your senses.

A network of paths: Völlan-Foiana near Lana and its valleys, are wonderfully walkable. Gravel paths and tractor roads separate one orchard from the next. Gentle walking paths ascend into the mountains and branch out over Vigiljoch walking area. Sunny valley paths lead into wild Ultental valley and into verdant Passeiertal valley. Panoramic paths lead from mountain hut to hut, getting steadily steeper as they near the mountain peaks.

This is Meraner Land walking country and hiking boot territory – with the ALPIANA – green luxury Dolce Vita Hotel right in the thick of it.

Marlinger Waalweg from Lana

This gentle walk begins above Vigiljoch upper cable car station at Lana, which is reached in a jiffy. Follow the signs for Marlinger Waalweg beneath the canopy of foliage to Schloss Lebenberg and onwards to the Forst Brewery and Töll. Take the same route back. The Marlinger Waalweg is one of the longest in South Tyrol.

Tour to Laugenspitze Peak

This walk may be done in 7 hours there and back starting at the ALPIANA – green luxury Dolce Vita Hotel. The actual starting point is Gampenpass, which may be reached in 20 minutes’ drive. Leave your car at Gampenpass next to the restaurant. Cross the pass road and take path no. 133, which ascends steeply up to Laugensee lake. Finally, take path no. 10 down to Laugenalm pasture (1,853 m) and return back to Gampenpass.

Mystical St. Hippolyth Chapel

You will arrive at Obermayrhof (Obermoarhof) farm, which you leave behind to your right and follow signs down to the valley leading directly to St. Hippolyth hill (758 m above sea level). Fantastic views of the whole Etsch river valley may be had on this walk.

Walk across local Vigiljoch Mountain to Naturnser Alm pasture

Vigiljoch lower cable car station is just a few minutes‘ drive away. This affectionately named ’Bahnl‘ takes walkers up to Vigiljoch. Once at the top, take path 34 through larches and pine forests, which takes you gently up to near the col. You will reach Bärenbad Alm pasture along path no. 2 through shady woodland, before carrying on along path 2 to join path no. 9, which forks into 9A and leads gently up to Naturnser Alm pasture.
